Achievements In The POLIO ERADICATION
 

Polio Epidemic in District Larkana started in August 2002
10 confirm cases in 2002.
Last polio confirm case reported in the District on 1st May 2003.
Coverage more than 95% achieved in NIDs.
Following steps were taken.
Micro Plan revised.
Missed areas discovered and first time immunized in reveries and mountainous areas of district.
Community, NGOs, Nazims / Councilors involved.
 

NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR FP & PHC LARKANA

This program was launched in 1994 to run for five years but keeping in    view of its importance / achievements, it has been continued up to 2011.

MALARIA CONTROL PROGRAM :

 

This program was started as Malaria Eradication Program in the year 1965.
Spray work is carried out in those villages, where Plasmodium Falciparum is found continuously (regular months).
Ten day (monthly) ACD (Active Case Detection) is done in field in each Union Council of the District by MCP staff. 20 days PCD work at health facility.

T.B CONTROL PROGRAMME DOTs.

T.B Control Program was running through T.B Clinics in the past.
In district Larkana DOTs has been started since July 2002.
Dots produces cure rates up to 95%.

LEISHMANIASIS IN LARKANA.

First case of Leishmianiasis was noted by district health department in February 2001 at village Sono Khan Chandio U.C Gaibidero Taluka Kamber.
Leishmaniasis cell was established in leprosy center Larkana.
   Out break surfaced again in January 2002 in the hilly areas of Larkana District i.e. Warah, Kamber and Shahdad Kot Talukas.
  Leishmaniasis Cell is working at Leprosy Center Larkana in which treatment, research, epidemiological survey and health education is being carried out.
   About 6000 cases have been treated by Leishmaniasis Cell.
03 Research papers are published in medical journals and various articles are published in National and International Newspapers by Dr. Farooq Rahman Soomro, Focal Person for Leishmaniasis. Leishmaniasis in Larkana is zoonisis by rodents (Rats, jerbills, Squirrels, Mongooses, Dogs and Cats).
Recently drugs amounting Rs.2.5 Lacs have been provided by Secretary Health to the District to treat the cases of Leshminiasis.


LEPROSY CONTROL PROGRAM.

  Leprosy Center established in Larkana by Germans in 1966.
In 1987 Sindh Government took over the project.
 Activities expend as Leprosy cum Health Education Cell form April 2000.
  The total number of leprosy patients registered in Pakistan is about 49000.
Every year, new cases registered in Pakistan are about 900 while Larkana has total 660 registered leprosy cases.
New Leprosy Center is near completion by District Government at the cost of 83.639 (M).

AIDS

  First case was reported in District Larkana in 1992.
 
Screening Centre was established in pathology department, Chandka Medical College Larkana, afterwards it was shifted to Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana in 2001.
  Recently out break was noticed by local health department as well as district authorities.
  Total HIV / AIDs cases reported from 1992 uptodate are 63.
  PC-I for Rehabilitation Centre of HIV / AIDs is prepared and sent to Programme Manager, HIV / AIDS Control Programme Sindh for transmission to Govt. for approval and further necessary action.
  District HIV / AIDs Task Force has been formed which is working under chairmanship of District Nazim Larkana and Executive District Officer (Health) is Secretary.
  Pamphlets are being distributed to public for the awareness of HIV / AIDs.
